Do you remember what you were doing on 9/11? Most of us will never forget that day as long as we live. I recently reminisced with my Pastor the events of that day, and we recalled how our church members were ministering to the needs of three families that buried loved ones that day. We heard the news on the radio on the way to the church, and immediately turned on the television in our fellowship hall. As we were preparing food for the mourning families, we all watched the events unfold in horror. As I reflect back now, I realize how we were doing the Lord's work of comforting those who mourn, on the same day that America was forced to mourn the loss of more than 3,000 people through that pre-meditated act of terrorism.
What the devil meant for evil that day, God used for good. Yes, more than 3,000 people lost their lives in an instant. Yes, several hundred of America's finest firemen, policemen, emergency workers, and military personnel, never returned home that day. Yes, there were billions of dollars in physical damage, not to mention the disastrous impact on our economy. Among all of this death and carnage, God was still in control! On an average work day approximately 250,000 people visited the World Trade Center, and about 50,000 people were employed there, so just look at the number of people God saved that day! Since 9/11, Americans have returned to church in record numbers seeking spiritual guidance. Even though the Bible has always been the world's #1 best seller, since 9/11 sales of the Bible have skyrocketed in record numbers. People are now asking God for help, not man. There has been a mass return to true Patriotism, and the American Flag is seen everywhere. The dialog of God and Country has returned to America, and the principles of Faith, Family, and Freedom are being seen in all areas of our daily life, even in many of our politicians. Remember the recent ruling on the Pledge of Allegiance? Our entire Congress stood as one in Washington, D.C. and denounced the 9th Circuit judges and defied their ruling by saying the Pledge and using the words One Nation Under God. Finally, I am seeing America's families draw closer to one another than ever before! Parents are home more and doing more activities with their children, and I see in the parent's eyes a look of alert protection, much like that of a mother hen watching over her chicks.
Make no mistake about it, the terrorists thought they "won" on 9/11, but God wanted to give America one more chance to return to Him. The pain inflicted in the hearts of many Americans that day will always be there, but God wants America to listen again to His Word in II Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." KJV The Bible says that God will not always strive with man, and I believe America is close to falling off of the fence with God, and through His mercy He is trying to get our attention before it is too late. The only reason America became the greatest nation on earth, is because it was founded on the Christian religion, as is stated in Psalms 33:12: "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance." KJV I believe that 9/11 was God's final call to America, and the unanswered question is whether or not we listened to His call.
The best way to memorialize 9/11, is for Christians to reclaim their country for Jesus Christ! God called us to be the "Salt and Light" of the earth, and we have certainly failed him over the last 60 years, as we silently stood by and watched Him being stripped from our nation's public profession. He didn't call us to be the "Salt and Light" of our home, or church, but rather of the whole world, and that means being involved in our communities, and drawing a line in the sand in front of the devil, and forbidding him to cross over it. I do not believe that one can be a Christian and "politically correct" at the same time! Memorialize 9/11 by making Jesus the Lord of your life, and give Him the Glory for giving America one more chance to return to Him. If we don't, then our prayer must be, God come quickly, and save us from the end time prophesies when America will no longer be the greatest nation on earth! Be proud to be an American and may God Bless the USA!
